Biennial Update

Federal Motor Carrier Safety administration( FMCSA) requires all entities under it's jurisdiction to update their information every two years or anytime there is a change in the information from your prior filing.

You are required to provide this update every two years even if your company has not changed it's information, has ceased interstate operations since the last update, or is no longer in business and you did not notify FMCSA.

Failure to complete a Biennial update will result in deactivation of  your USDOT number and may result in civil penalties of up to $1000/day, not to exceed $10000

When to file for Biennial update?

Answer is :It depends on your USDOT number

  • If the next to last digit of your USDOT number is an odd number, you file in odd years i.e. 2021, 2023, 2025 etc.

  • If the next to last digit of your USDOT number is even , you file in even years i.e. 2022, 2024, 2026 etc.

  • The last digit of your USDOT number determines, what month you file in. For example: if the last digit is 2, you file in February etc.

   

 

So, If your DOT number is 3483882, you would file in February of every even year. If your number is 3483897, you would file in July of every odd year
